About Us...

Our Community...

LaGrange High School is located in its namesake city; LaGrange, Georgia. Called America's Greatest Little City, LaGrange exemplifies big city life with a small town atmosphere which embraces diversity. With two colleges, an extensive arts community, a top-of-the-mark parks and recreation department, and so much more, we feel entitled to brag.

The orignal settlement began in the early 19th century soon after the territory was ceded by the Creek Indians and the subsequent establishment of Troup County, Georgia. The City was incorporated in December of 1828.

A French soldier and statesman, the Marquis de La Fayette had earned the love and respect of Americans through his service to the United States during the American Revolution. He spent much of his personal time and fortune to aid the United States.

LaFayette was the guest of the United States Government from September 1824 until December 1825 and during this time he spent two weeks in Georgia with Governor George M. Troup serving as his official host. During this time he visited the burgeoning community and commented how much it reminded him of his home; LaGrange. To honor LaFayette the town was named after his home.

LHS History...

Originally opened in 1903, LaGrange High school sits on 50 acres of land centered around the main school building at 516 North Greenwood Street. The current school is comprised of five major sections; The main building, the vocational wing, the Boys' Gym, the Girl's Gym, and the Practice Fields. The oldest section was constructed after a 1944 fire destroyed the original LaGrange High School. This section houses classrooms and the Auditorium.

The original cafeteria was torn down and expanded in 1972. The Physical Education and Athletics Building, often referred to as the Boys' Gym, was built in 1954. Currently this houses the Competition Gymnasium, Weight Room, Training Facilites, Athletic Offices, and Health Classrooms. A massive exspansion complete in 1980 doubled the size of the school adding a vocational wing, band room, Girl's Gym, and Horticulture Research Garden.

LHS has maintained the highest standards in academics, arts, and atheltics during its existence. Ranked as a School of Excellence, we were recently ranked by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top high schools in the United States. Our Arts and Vocational programs have earned national distinction.
